Being pregnant can be a huge life change in and of itself. As a DC Maternity photographer and mom, I know just how important it can be to have an extra pair of hands. Even having a second opinion on things is super helpful. I understand and stress the importance of choosing the right hands to trust with your new bundle of joy. Sometimes researching to find the right person can be pretty daunting. That is why I’ve gathered a list of the top four Washington DC midwives for you!
M.A.M.A.S., Inc.
M.A.M.A.S., Inc is a full-scope midwifery service and offers prenatal care, birth services, postpartum care, well-body GYN care, family planning, breastfeeding/early parents assistance, and intrauterine insemination. In addition, all of these services can be offered right in the comfort of your home. M.A.M.A.S combines individual visits with community care. In addition, they bring together a group of women due in the same month to discuss prenatal nutrition, exercise, self-care, breastfeeding, and preparation for the actual birth.
Then, when it’s time for your delivery, two qualified midwives will meet you in your home with a mobile office and deliver your baby right there where you feel most comfortable! Then, after your bundle of joy has made a debut, your midwives will provide newborn care for the baby’s first full month with comprehensive exams for both mother and baby. This way, after the baby has settled in, you’ll be fully equipped with a group of like-minded mamas, a plethora of knowledge, and a healthy bundle of joy!
Rock Creek Midwifery
The Rock Creek midwives are Certified Professional Midwives through the North American Registry of Midwives and have received intensive training. Throughout your pregnancy, your midwives will give you information and guidance for the duration of your pregnancy and even after! You’ll only see one or two midwives for your prenatal care, so you’ll know and trust them as you plan for your delivery and what to do after!
Rock Creek Midwifery offers labor and birth as you want and where you want to with zero time limits (something that’s not too common). Your primary midwives will be monitoring you constantly and are up to date on the latest technology and research. They will educate you on the decisions you make during delivery. After your baby is born, your midwives will perform all the comprehensive exams needed to ensure your baby is healthy and happy. If you’re looking for a midwife who’s going to be your right-hand person, these Washington DC midwives may be the best for you!
GW Medical Faculty Associates
One a much larger midwifery service, the GW Medical team has made a recent change! WIth a much more scaled-back approach, the GW team has downsized to just a few midwives. This way, you and your baby will be comfortable with the midwives before birth. You will also receive all the special attention and care you need. The full-scope midwifery service provides in-hospital care, prenatal care, GYN care, and deliveries in the Washington DC Metro area.
Moms can be seen on a typical prenatal schedule. However, their midwives provide full coverage for you 24 hours a day, seven days a week! To book this midwifery service, the team does have a few requirements. As a new mom, you should be in excellent health, follow the team’s nutritional guidelines, be committed to natural birth, have a secondary support partner, and be committed to waiting for labor to begin on its own in 42 weeks. If you follow all of these guidelines, GW Medical may be your Washington DC Midwife!
Sage Midwifery
If you’re looking for a midwife who takes a little bit more laid-back approach, Sage Midwifery may be the service for you! Sam and Ronit provide inclusive, evidence-based care and welcome all types of families. With an emphasis on serving underserved communities, Sam and Ronit want to be clear that all families deserve to be given the same amount of care regardless of background. Families of low-income, with disabilities, of different body sizes, and those who have children later in life are also eligible to be served within the community.
As your midwives, Sam and Ronit will be there to guide you on your pregnancy journey. They will be taking care of your autonomy and the choices you make for yourself and your child. In addition, your baby will be in the best hands. Sage Midwifery takes pride in its ability to treat your newborn with the same respect and dignity they provide you. In addition, Sage Midwifery offers well-person care, fertility care, parent yoga classes, and educational courses.
